Introduction

Within the framework of the ACSAD-BGR cooperation, three Pilot Areas for Phase II and two Pilot Areas for Phase III in different countries were chosen. 

Why Pilot Areas?

• Identification and evaluation of appropriate methodological tools for the assessment of groundwater and soil resources.

• goal-oriented application of these tools under field conditions.

• Know-how-transfer through on-the-job training.

• provision of up-to-date information on groundwater and soil resources.

• assessment of major hazards to natural resources

• development of appropriate management tools and guidelines aiming at the protection and sustainable use of groundwater and soil resources

• provision of information and recommendations to concerned local authorities and institutions.

• awareness-building among local authorities, communities and farmers.

Through the project's training activities NEW DSS-Applications in the MENA - Region have been initiated
